BALLOON MAGIC
WRITTEN VERSION OF THE EXPERIMENT
Materials

Baking soda - 5 teaspoons (3, 2, 1)

Vinegar - 3 cups

3x balloons
-
3x plastic bottles (please reuse)

Precautions:

Please do not eat reactants or products

Keep out of eyes, wear goggles or glasses if you have them

If the reaction continues to occur after the balloon is at maximum capacity, pull the balloon off the bottle or else it might pop!

Make sure you hold onto the top of the bottle where the balloon is attached whilst the reaction is happening.
Steps

Using a funnel, pour one cup of vinegar into each plastic bottle.

(optional) Put one drop of food colouring into each bottle, make sure to use different colours for each bottle.

Using a funnel, put 3 teaspoons of baking soda into a balloon then in another balloon put in 2 teaspoons and once again with 1 teaspoon. Now you should have 3 balloons with different amounts of baking soda in them. Make sure to write down which balloon has 3 teaspoons, 2 and 1.

Then attach the balloon to the top of the bottle, do not to tip the baking soda in.

Take one of the bottles with a balloon attached and hold up the balloon so that the baking powder falls in.

Hold onto the top the top of the bottle where the balloon is attached for a minute.

After a minute take the balloon off the bottle trying not to lose any of the air in the balloon and tie the end.

Using a measuring tape measure the size of the balloon and write down the values somewhere.

Repeat step 5 to 8 with the other two bottles.
